Succession
Succession is “the process by which the structure of a biological community evolves over time”. There is 2 types; primary and secondary. Successional changes affect my environment because it is always happening. Usually very slowly and is better for us because we are adapting to each other so we can live “peacefully”. Successional changes affect my animal because it is a key species meaning that if something changes in the environment, cougars will cease to exist or secondary succession would occur.
Human Impact |
Human impact has had a very negative effect on cougars. Humans have destroyed cougars’ homes and they have become an endangered species. Cougars were hunted for sport.
Plant Adaptations
Creosote bush- main plant species in the Chihuahuan Desert
Saw Palmetto- Cougars use it for cover for their cubs and to hunt prey
Gambel Oak- provide cover for prey (mostly deer/they feed on it too)
