Flow of energy |
The trees and grass are producers. Their energy is derived from the sun so they have 100% of the energy. When deers, rabbits, crickets, or mouses consume the grass they only have 10% of the original energy. After animals eat them, the predators only gain 1% of the energy. When the predators decay and are eaten by decomposers they receive .1% of the energy. The cougar is considered a top consumer. The cycling of major nutrients is important for my animal the cougar because it keeps the ecosystem going. Without them there would be too many deers and everything would go downhill from there.
